BETHAN SMOLENIEC
Journalist Portfolio
BIO
I am passionate about reporting on world news, politics, the environment and using my platform as a journalist to give a voice to First Nations people and CALD communities.
I am a versatile and experienced reporter. I have worked for radio, television, print and online outlets, reporting everything from short form breaking news radio copy to producing a daily hour-long news and current affairs TV program.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Communications: journalism and International Studies from Charles Sturt University in 2018. Through this course, based at a renowned Australian journalism school, I began my career by reporting and presenting local and National radio news.
Since then, I have worked as a radio reporter and a digital journalist at SBS, Australia’s multicultural and multilingual broadcaster.
Additionally, I have spent time on the production desk of ABC News 24, the only free to air 24 hour television news service in Australia.
Most recently, I have been a reporter and producer with ABCs ‘The Drum’ program, a daily hour long news and current affairs show.
As a dual British Australian citizen, I am seeking to explore new opportunities which allow me to further my career and continue telling the stories I am passionate about.
